Working at Framers’ Workroom, I get to see a great variety of artwork, photographs and posters from clients that visit the shop. One of my favorite items is a large set of vintage posters. They are bold, kitschy and colorful. The posters feature airline advertisements, travel destinations, plays and celebrities. They were acquired through an auction house. The aging paper is preserved by adhering the original poster to a canvas backing. I find their use of color and lettering to be captivating – a kind of jolt to the system of someone who is conditioned to seeing current print advertisements, such as movie posters, that has strayed from the sole use of illustration to incorporating the digital image. Don’t get me wrong, as a photographer, I am quite fond of the digital image. But, also as an artist, I am inspired by the hand-lettered text, the use of words as part of the image and the color that seems to jump off of the print.
Go get inspired!
Enjoy your evening…
